OPTIMAL DESIGN OF 16 BAR TRUSS STRUCTURE BY PATTERN SEARCH METHODS

The focus of this research was to formulate optimization model 16-bar trussesalong with stress, stability and deflection constraints. derivative free methods were used for theoptimization engineering design problems. These basically designed forunconstrained In formulated truss problems the constraints werehandled by using exterior penalty functions. results obtainedby MATLAB which demonstrated effectiveness applicability these freemethods. It concluded that Nelder-Mead method not acceptable due their faraway convergence even its number function evaluations smaller than functionevaluations Multi-Directional Search Hooke Jeeves method. By comparing theoptimal values obtained three methods, performance Hooke-Jeeves methodwas better other two methods.
